Task lighting

The middle ring — directed light for counters, desks, and mirrors in Basel homes.

Layer stack

Ambient — room fill
Task — work surfaces
Accent — edges and objects

Where task sits in the stack

Task light answers a job: chopping, reading, shaving, keyboard work. It should not replace ambient fill. We place under-cabinet strips, adjustable desk lamps, and vanity fittings at heights that match how you stand and sit.

Kelvin guide for work surfaces

Cooler task sources help accuracy; warmer ones suit dining. We keep them on separate dimmers from ambient when possible:

Kitchens facing the court

Galley kitchens in Kleinbasel often lack counter light by mid-afternoon. Linear task under cabinets, paired with a clearer ambient line, restores prep visibility without flooding neighbour windows. Swiss cabinet depths and socket heights drive fixture choice more than catalogue style.

Desks and attic niches

Pitched-roof offices suffer glare from a lone ceiling spot. An adjustable task lamp plus soft ambient bounce makes remote work usable. We avoid new recessed cans where timber structure limits cutting.

Bathrooms and mirrors

Vertical light beside the mirror reduces face shadows better than a single overhead. IP ratings and Swiss wet-zone rules are noted on the schedule for the electrician.

Cords and floor safety

Plans mark plug positions and furniture clearance so cords stay short on timber floors common in walk-ups. Where sockets are scarce, we flag additions for the electrician rather than trailing leads across doorways.
